Load-Settlement Prediction for Piles and Piers

Abstract
A simple method is presented for the prediction of load-settlement behavior to failure of single piles and piers. The results of theoretical elastic analysis of pile settlement behavior are used as a basis for the method, which assumes linear relationships to failure between base load and settlement. An analysis is made of several published and load tests on piles in clay and sand and empirical values of soil modulus are suggested. Comparisons between observed and predicted load-settlement behavior show reasonable agreement.
