Abstract
The results of combined renal and pancreatic transplantation which stops the progression of detrimental diabetic angiopathy were discussed. Pancreatic organ transplants in 4 patients having juvenile diabetes mellitus with glomerulosclerosis, retinopathy and diabetic gastroenteropathy support this conclusion. Two patients with diabetic nephropathy given combined renal and pancreatic islet allotransplantation showed that islet transplantation is well tolerated, but many problems remain to be solved.
