Reaction of carbon disulfide with nickel(II)–amine complexes

Abstract
The reaction of carbon disulfide with a variety of nickel(II)–amine complexes has been carried out. It has been found that dithiocarbamate complexes are readily formed under the proper conditions, and the synthetic procedures presented provide a convenient and direct route to such compounds. Complexes having hydroxyl and mercaptide groups in addition to amine groups have been found to give exclusively dithiocarbamate complexes, rather than xanthates or trithiocarbonates. The infrared and optical spectra of the complexes have been measured and are discussed in terms of the proposed structures of the complexes.
