Abstract
The 1980s was a decade in which we faced and exposed some of our worst proclivities as a society. In our own form of glasnost, news items describing the abuse and pornographic exploitation of children, insider trading and greed on Wall Street, and the sexual trysts of charismatic church leaders gained front-page attention. That some professionals exploit their clients sexually and feel justified in doing so strikes dissonant chords in most of us. Dr. Gabbard and the American Psychiatric Press have produced a book that deals with this issue in an intelligent and sensitive fashion. Although the several authors focus mainly on the sexual involvement of psychotherapists with their patients, nonpsychiatric physicians, dentists, chiropractors, attorneys, teachers, and the clergy do not escape discussion and thoughtful analysis. Keywords
