Abstract
ONE of the most serious problems facing doctors and hospitals today is the shortage of nurses. Trying to overcome this has been an up-hill battle because for many years the nurses themselves, through their two great national organizations, were not willing to admit that the shortage existed. Even today nurse leaders talk about maldistribution rather than shortage and intimate that hospitals are not using their available nurse supply properly.
