Abstract
A majority of goldfish exposed to whole-body irradiation with with 8 kr of X-rays survived for more than 100 days if kept at 4[degree]C, whereas most of similarly irradiated fish died within 10 days if kept continually at 22[degree]C. The cool surroundings inhibited development of histological damage of the intestinal epithelium. If irradiated fish kept at 4[degree]C for 40 or 100 days were transferred to 22[degree]C, they died within about 10 days, exhibiting characteristic damage of intestinal epithelium.
