Abstract
Marihuana, the dried leaves and flowering tops of the plant cannabis, has been smoked for centuries. The folklore of many cultures has attributed medicinal properties to extracts of cannabis. Although it is too early to tell, cannabis may in time be recognized as another of the many plants providing powerful remedies for mankind's ills. Its principal active ingredient, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), has a remarkably low toxicity in laboratory animals and human beings.
