Increased rubidium uptake by red cells during pregnancy

Abstract
The avidity of red cells for Rb86, a tracer of potassium in biological systems, was measured before, during, and after pregnancy. There was a gradual rise in rubidium uptake throughout pregnancy. The average uptake at 8 months' gestation was 50% higher than control levels; 6 weeks postpartum the uptake had decreased, but not to the control value.
