Abstract
The positions of the half-cystines in the hormone carrier neurophysin are compared with those in 3 cystine-rich plant proteins [hevein, wheat germ agglutinin, ragweed pollen allergen Ra5]. This suggests that neurophysin is a molecule of 2 domains with very similar structures to the domains in wheat germ agglutinin. It is further proposed that in proneurophysin the hormone (oxytocin or vasopressin) is covalently linked to the COOH terminus of neurophysin. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
