Symptomatic Measurement of Age

Abstract
In an attempt to establish social correlates of chronological age, information from a survey of 3,510 retired people was cluster analyzed. The only variables correlated with chronological age were those directly caused by chronological age rather than aging. As an illustration of techniques that can be used to develop separate measures for various dimensions of aging, scalogram analysis was used to develop a Guttman scale of withdrawal from the job.
