Interaction Between a Soil Fungus and Barley Seed

Abstract
Gliocladium roseum was isolated on agar from barley (Hordeum vulgare) residues. G. roseum rapidly colonized seeds at the end closest to the embryo. Growth of the fungus depends on the supply of the C source which could be provided by soluble seed exudates or husk components. A major factor contributing to the prevention of seed germination is competition with the pathogen for O2.
