PINFET hybrid optical receivers for 1.2 Gbit/s transmission systems operating at 1.3 and 1.55 μm wavelength

Abstract

PINFET hybrid optical receivers with a −3 dB bandwidth of more than 650 MHz have been used in 1.2 Gbit/s systems operating at 1.528 μm wavelength. For a 10⁻⁹ BER using an NRZ 2¹⁵ −1 pseudorandom bit sequence, the receiver sensitivity was −36.5 dBm, which is comparable with the best results obtained using APDs.
