Abstract
This article describes the Web as a fundamentally new medium for visualization that is changing the way visualization applications are developed, delivered, and used. The authors briefly discuss Web-based development tools, Web-based information structures, and related work in Web-based visualization. They then describe a number of Web-based information visualization prototypes and applications that they have developed by adapting several well-known information visualization ideas and techniques for use within Web environments. In these discussions, they provide a brief survey of important visualization techniques, describe their implementation, and note advantages and disadvantages of using the Web for such applications. Before delving into these specific examples, they offer some relevant background about the Web and their use of visualization for analysis. Keywords
