Optical Absorption Study for Quartz Resonators Irradiated by Electrons

Abstract
The optical absorption of natural and synthetic quartz irradiated by MeV electrons has been measured in visible and ultra-violet regions, and the data have been interpreted in conjunction with the frequency changes of irradiated AT quartz resonators. The formation of color centers is confirmed to play an important role in lowering the resonant frequencies, while the displacement damage probably causes an increase in frequencies.
