Abstract
THE legal rights of minors as established in legislation, and court decisions involve a number of complex factors, many of which are in conflict. The new Maryland law1 gives minors full legal capacity and responsibility to consent to medical services for venereal diseases or pregnancy. It seeks to protect society, however, and the individual minor, at the risk of offending parental rights.Cases in which parents have raised legal objections to medical services performed on their minor child without proper consent do occasionally reach the courts.
