Regeneration in the Nogo Zone

Abstract
It has long been known that whereas peripheral nerves show some ability to regenerate, nerves in the brain and spinal cord are unable to regenerate at all after injury. In a Perspective, Tessier-Lavigne and Goodman discuss three recent papers that report the identity and characterization of a factor called Nogo-A that can inhibit nerve regeneration in culture. These findings will promote studies to discover whether blocking Nogo-A will be of benefit in treating spinal cord injuries.
