Abstract
An amino acid fraction of cow''s liver, obtained by acid hydrolysis, was studied as an antagonist of 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP)-inhibited growth of E. coli. In synthetic media, the inhibitory effect of 4 x 10-4 M DNP is overcome, not only by the amino acid preparation obtained from the liver, but also by a mixture of amino acids artificially prepared to duplicate the liver preparation. Single amino acids are not able to antagonize DNP inhibition in equivalent concentrations.
