Fractionated Dose Administration Schedule for Cholecystography

Abstract
Three different administration dosages of sodium tyropanoate (Bilopaque) were compared in a clinical study with nine volunteers. Regimen A consisted of a single dose of 3000 mg. Regimen B of fractionated dose of 4 × 750 mg, and Regimen C a fractionated dose of 4 × 375 mg sodium tyropanoate. The fractionated Regimens B and C were administered over a six hour period. The radiographic quality obtained by the larger fractionated dose equaled at least the quality of the large single dose, and both were superior radiographically to the smaller fractionated dose. Since radiographic quality was comparable, the larger fractionated dose schedule is to be preferred on the basis of a significantly lower serum iodine peak which should predispose to less interference with certain metabolic functions, although the changes in blood chemistry were only slightly less affected in this experiment.
