Oxidative Phosphorylation Coupled with Nitrate Respiration

Abstract
The oxidative phosphorylation coupled with anaerobic reduction of nitrate was demonstrated in cell-free extracts of P. aeruginosa. The P/NO3 ratio was about 0.3, with lactate as the substrate. The phospho rylation activity of the cell-free extracts was inactivated by heat treatment, and sensitive to potassium cyanide and DNP. It was presented that the phosphorylation activity required the combination of the particles and the supernatant which were prepared by the centrifugation at 138,000×g of the cell-free extracts.
