Abstract
Using the weighted density approximation, the author shows that a new anomaly in the plasmon dispersion can occur in systems with strong inhomogeneity and low electron density, provided a reciprocal lattice vector lies near 2kF. This anomaly originates from the peak in the static structure factor of the homogeneous electron gas near 2kF.Keywords
