Abstract
We have used quasielastic incoherent neutron scattering to study the molecular motions of NH3 in TaS2. We show that the diffusion mechanism involves instantaneous jumps between equivalent next nearest neighbor sites in the basal plane and measure an activation energy for translational diffusion of 9.6±0.3 kcal/mol. The motional jump frequencies measured by neutron scattering and NMR are compared. Keywords
