Abstract
Complete elimination of feedback reflections from the cleaved facets of GaAs/GaAlAs double‐heterostructure injection lasers has been achieved. This results in smooth amplified spontaneous emission spectra, from diodes modified by a combination of antireflection coating and angled stripe contacts, at currents greater than 2.5 times the cw threshold for unmodified lasers. The angled‐stripe lasers operate in a two‐mirror cavity producing smooth spectra with 1‐Å (FWHM) bandwidths. Keywords
