Carbohydrate Metabolism in Normal Pregnancy

Abstract
GLYCOSURIA during pregnancy is such a frequent occurrence that it is often dismissed as unimportant. We have found, however, that true diabetes often begins during pregnancy and may be overlooked and that pre-existing diabetes is often made worse by pregnancy. These two facts prompted us to study the effect of normal pregnancy on carbohydrate metabolism.MethodTwenty-five healthy pregnant patients were taken at random from the clinic of the Boston Lying-in Hospital.
