Abstract
Very satisfactory solns. of CO2-free NaOH about 1.2 N are prepared by adding to excess of boiling carbonate-free Na2SO4 soln. a boiling soln. of Ba(OH)2, cooling and settling in C02-free air. The clear soln., siphoned off and diluted in boiling distilled water as required, with cooling in CO2-free air, is used in a burette so arranged that air entering it is washed free from CO2 and displaced into the reservoir when the burette is filled. The necessary apparatus and technique are described. Less than 0.01 ml. of N/75 NaOH so prepared gives a sharp endpoint with methvl red in 40-50 ml. of fluid. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
