Abstract
Maleic hydrazide completely inhibited the formation of flower primordia in Wintex barley, a long-day plant, the effective inhibitory concn. varying with plant age and size. Photoperiodic induction of Biloxi soybean, a short-day plant, was inhibited somewhat with maleic hydrazide treatment, but floral initiation was not completely suppressed. Foliar application on Chrysanthemum and peppermint inhibited flowering in terminal buds. Evidence suggests that the inhibition of flower primordia is effected on growth rather than specifically through the photo-periodic mechanism. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
