Abstract
The contrast sensitivity of the human eye and its dependence on luminance and display size is described on the basis of internal noise in the visual system. With the addition of a global description of the optical MTF of the eye, a complete physical model is obtained for the spatial contrast sensitivity function. The results of this model are compared with measurements published by various authors. Keywords
