Abstract
"The assimilative memory changes noted in the Carmichael, Hogan, and Walter experiment have been shown to operate not only for reproductive memory but also in the immediate reproduction of tachistoscopically presented figures from the Carmichael series. When an ambiguous figure to be shown to S labeled in advance of its exposure, it tends to be reproduced more like its given label than when it is not labeled prior to exposure." It is proposed that the same mechanisms which mediate assimilation in "reproductive memory" over time operate to produce the kinds of changes in "reproduction" of immediately presented figures.
