Abstract
Prime focus correctors consisting of three spherical surfaced lenses, and covering a field of around 1° diameter are now being built for Ritchey–Chrétien telescopes, but hitherto, to achieve a similar performance with a paraboloid prime mirror, systems of four lenses have been used. It is shown that, by a substantial change of lens shapes, a three lens corrector can be designed for a paraboloid, to give a very similar performance to the Ritchey–Chrétien triple corrector. Numerical examples are given.
