Diagnosis of Retroperitoneal Fluid Collections by Ultrasonography: A Series of Surgically Proved Cases

Abstract
A total of 18 patients with a variety of retroperitoneal fluid collections are presented. Etiologic factors and culture results are discussed. Ultrasound was the single most valuable diagnostic study. Because of its accuracy and non-invasiveness it should be used early in the diagnostic study of a patient with a suspected retroperitoneal fluid collection.
