Abstract
The authors have investigated the extent to which Satchler's theorem (1972) breaks down when density-dependent folding interactions are considered. This has several important implications for the analysis of inelastic scattering in terms of nuclear shapes and possibly for the interpretation of Strutinsky model calculations. Specific experiment to test for the existence of effects is described. Keywords
