Abstract
Insect cages made from cellulose acetate had a phytotoxic effect on broad bean, Vicia faba, and alfalfa, Medicago sativa. Vinyl plastic was found to be non-phytotoxic. A goldfish bioassay, and a chemical test for phenolphthalein conducted with the vinyl plastic was negative, whereas the cellulose acetate sheeting was toxic to goldfish and positive for phenolphthalein. Keywords
