Abstract
Expressions for the NMR relaxation times T1 and T2 as well as for the chemical shift σ are given in terms of the binary transition operator. These are obtained by solving a Boltzmann equation valid for a dilute monatomic gas. Crude estimates of the anisotropic part of the transition operator and of T1 are obtained for dipolar and spin—rotation interactions. These agree in magnitude with other estimates of these quantities. Keywords
