Abstract
High levels (about 4,000-fold) of resistance to dieldrin were isolated by screening field-collected populations of Drosophila melanogaster (Meigen). The resistance was made homozygous following 2-4 generations of selection. A single, major gene mapping to the left arm of chromosome III was solely responsible for resistance. The implications of the recovery of resistant mutants from field populations of D. melanogaster are discussed. Keywords
