Abstract
The pure-diffusion (field-free) distribution function for electrons in a gas enclosed by absorbing walls is obtained. The distribution is described in terms of spatial modes, each of which decays exponentially with time. Special emphasis is placed on the lowest modes which explicitly display the "diffusion cooling" effect for electrons. Keywords
