Abstract
We present the result of a simple superposition of configuration calculation of the term values for the , , and singly excited states of the Mg atom. In particular, we have examined quantitatively the importance of the configuration interaction between the doubly excited perturber and the singly excited 3snl series. The numerical result of this calculation is in excellent agreement with the experimental data, including the highly excited states.
