Production of H3+ions with low internal energy for studies of dissociative recombination

Abstract
An RF-trap ion source has been used to produce H3+ with low vibrational energy. The internal energy of the ions has been measured by collision-induced dissociation to be less than 0.5 eV. The implication of this to studies of dissociative recombination is discussed.Keywords
