Abstract
The finite element method is by its nature very modular. Object oriented programming enables full advantage to be taken of this modularity. This makes for safer and easier programming, and extending or modifying object oriented programs is very straightforward. The paper describes an object oriented implementation of the finite element method, and illustrates the advantages of the approach. Keywords
