Absorption Spectroscopy in Laser-Generated Plumes by Surface Reflection

Abstract
Absorption measurements can be used to study the laser-generated plume even at the very initial moments of plume formation. This new optical scheme is based on reflecting a probe beam off the surface. A high degree of penetration of the plume is possible at high probe powers. Saturation of the absorption is found to occur at higher powers than normal. Relatively broad spectral features due to pressure broadening have been obtained.
