Optical demodulation and amplification of FSK signals using AlGaAs lasers

Abstract
Stimulated Brillouin scattering is used as a narrowband amplifier to demodulate and amplify FSK signals at bit rates up to 250 Mbit/s. Gain of as much as a factor of 1000 is obtained for a pump power of 12mW. Both pump and signal lasers are simple AlGaAs lasers.
