Abstract
The dependence of the domain size and domain size scattering on the write energy and the external magnetic field is studied for GdTbFe magneto-optical recording disks. It is found that with respect to the carrier-to-noise ratio the optimum write field is 200–300 Oe and the best write energy is above 0.5 nJ per laser pulse. The write noise is mainly caused by the domain size scattering. Variation of the thickness of the Al layer has little influence on the domain size: by making the Al layer thicker, the domain becomes only slightly smaller. The domain formation is well described by a two-stage model: domain nucleation and domain wall motion towards its final position. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
