Flavin Metabolites

Abstract
There have been many recent reports of flavin derivatives other than the more commonly known coenzymatic forms FMN and FAD and the final photolysis products of riboflavin, viz., lumiflavin and lumichrome. These “new” flavins have biological importance in functioning as coenzymes in flavoproteins and/or reflect riboflavin metabolism in biosystems. This chapter provides an overview of flavin derivatives (summarized in Table 1) with emphasis placed on those arising from microbial and mammalian metabolism of riboflavin.
