New Way to Graft Silica Gel: Hydride Silanes

Abstract
An improved synthesis of chemically bonded reversed phases for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is described. The new way to graft silica gel uses the reaction of silicon hydride on the silanol groups of silica surface with triruthenium dodecacarbonyl cluster as the catalyst. The coverages (α) are given and the structure of the bonded phases are determined by 29Si cross-polarization—magic angle spinning (CP—MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
