Abstract
The principles of the study of line profiles by Fourier transform methods are summarized, and examples of applications to emission profiles are discussed, astrophysical problems being emphasized. Absorption lines are less easy to investigate by Fourier transform methods, but there may be special problems to which Fourier transform methods could profitably be applied. Keywords
