Abstract
Due to the phenomenon of specific polyembryony, the nine-banded armadillo normally produces monovular quadruplets. One would expect that on occasion some variation in this number would occur. Intrauterine mishap would be expected to reduce the number of young born, and indeed this sometimes happens. Quite rarely one would expect to find more than four embryos in the uterus as a result of extra divisions of the embryonic disc at the time of implantation. Keywords
