Abstract
The lipins are classified into 8 groups, these and their constituents are described chemically, with recent advances in methods of separation and identification of fatty acids. Certain aspects of the physiology of the lipins are discussed influence of hormones on the metabolism of phospholipids, expts. with P32, enzy-matic hydrolysis of monophosphatides, and detn. of lipins in tissues. The pathologic aspects considered are: Xan-thomatoses, Niemann-Pick''s disease (reticular and histio-cytic sphingomyelinosis), Gaucher''s disease (reticular and histiocytic cerebrosidosis), Tay-Sachs'' disease (amaurotic idiocy, juvenile type), and Pfaundler-Hurler''s disease (gar-goylism).Keywords
