Abstract
Attempts were made to study the mode of infection of hump of cattle by S. assamensis in E. Pakistan. This nematode is viviparous and the infection is mechanical, through the agency of flies and other insect vectors. Hump sore is a chronic skin disease from which more than 25% of adult cattle in this territory suffer; it is aggravated with the onset of monsoon rains. Infection is heavier in big herds and in cattle imported to E. Pakistan than in local breeds and in individual sheds. The disease follows a previous hump wound, e.g., from scraping, the hump. Hump sores persist for years but the animals do not show symptoms of any systemic disturbance; the infection is entirely topical. Keywords
