CT Guided Celiac Plexus and Splanchnic Nerve Neurolysis

Abstract
The use of computed tomography (CT) as an aid in performing splanchnic and celiac plexus neurolysis in humans is described. Using CT to guide placement of the needle tips, a transcrural technique was developed that permits direct neurolysis of the celiac ganglia. Computed tomography monitored the extent of spread of neuolytic agent into adjacent tissues and detected abnormal needle positions that may have resulted in serious complications.
