Abstract
Previous studies have suggested that phentolamine produces beta-adrenergic stimulation of the heart. We have defined the mechanisms by which this occurs by determining dose response curves to phentolamine before and after autonomic nervous system blockade with other drugs. Our studies demonstrate that the cardiac stimulation which results from phentolamine is reflexly induced by decreases in blood pressure and systemic vascular resistance. Keywords
