Primary Malignant Melanoma of the Vagina

Abstract
The authors present 5 cases of primary malignant melanoma of the vagina and have reviewed 74 additional cases from the literature. The prognosis is extremely poor for this disease as compared to the usual primary squamous carcinoma of the vagina. Radical surgery combined with postoperative radiotherapy to the pelvis and inguinal node regions is suggested as the treatment of choice.
