THE RENAL EXCRETION OF ENDOGENOUS CREATININE IN MAN. COMPARISON WITH EXOGENOUS CREATININE AND INULIN

Abstract
By the use of the specific enzymatic method of Miller and Dubos for the determination of true creatinine in serum and in urine, clearances of endogenous creatinine were compared with those of exogenous creatinine and of inulin in normal subjects and patients with reduced renal function. In a normal subject the clearance of endogenous creatinine is usually equal to that of inulin. The exogenous creatinine clearance in normal subjects, but not in those with reduced renal function, immediately after intraven. injection of creatinine rises abruptly to a much higher level than that of the preceding endogenous creatinine without any associated change of inulin clearance. In normal subjects endogenous creatinine is probably excreted almost entirely by nitration; exogenous creatinine in a large measure by tubular secretion.
